It is with great sadness that the family of Carolina Laura Alvarez Lang, age 53, of Marietta, Ohio; formerly of Brooklyn, New York; Seattle, Washington, and Fallbrook, California, announces her untimely passing on Sunday, October 6, 2024, due to complications from cancer. She was born in Karlsruhe, Germany on July 9, 1971, the daughter of Sonia Angelica Alvarez Fernandez of Villa Alegre, Chile, and William Atwood McNeely of Brooklyn, New York.
A graduate of Fallbrook Union High School in California, she obtained a BA in Comparative Literature and Drama, and an MFA in Acting from University of Washington. While residing in New York City she worked professionally as an Actress, Writer, and Producer for film, TV, radio, and theatre among LORT theaters, Off-Broadway, & avant-garde venues, and was a part-time instructor at City University of New York. Carolina's theater work included appearances on Off Broadway New York stages, such as The Joseph Papp Public Theater, New York Theater Workshop, La MaMa ETC, The Connely Theater, and others. She directed "6:25: History Beneath the Skin," a documentary theater piece showcased in Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, and Boston, which received mention in The New York Times. She graduated from the New York Integral Yoga Institute, studying under and receiving her certification from Swami Satchidananda, and subsequently became a full-time instructor working all over the city.
Carolina had a prolific impact during her 12 years in the Marietta and Parkersburg communities where she was a First-Grade Elementary School Teacher, Adjunct Professor and Visiting Artist at Marietta College, Playwright and Actor performing regionally with solo shows "MARGARET" AND "FANNY," and was a well-liked Yoga Instructor.
She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Matt Lang, their son Luca Sebastian Matthew Rafael, stepdaughters Adyson and Edy, and her sisters Joy, Lorraine and Ingrid.
A Memorial Visitation will be held for family, friends and acquaintances on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St. in Marietta, Ohio from 5pm to 8pm.
