Christa S. Cope

Cope

Christa S. Cope, of Parkersburg and Marietta, passed away peacefully on October 24 at the age of 87. Christa grew up in wartime and post-war Germany near the town of Fulda, where she had been employed in her brother-in-law's building supply firm. She trained to become an English translator and played competitive contract bridge. On a visit to her sister Gisela Pfaff in Marietta, she met her husband-to-be Charles Cope, whom she married in 1970 and subsequently moved to Parkersburg. Their only son Eric was born in 1971. With Charles, she shared a love of classical music and travel, going on annual trips with friends to attend the summer music festival at the Chautauqua Institution, and visiting many other destinations throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. An excellent cook and gardener, she maintained ties to her homeland through the German Women's Club of Marietta-Parkersburg. Following Charles' death in 2002, she became a longtime resident of the Glenwood Community in Marietta.

Christa is survived by her son Eric, his wife Ilona and their two children Charles and Julia, who currently live in Zurich, Switzerland. A nephew, Alex R. Pfaff, resides in Marietta with his wife Janell and two daughters, Maria and Kristen.
