Jill Elaine Whitted, of Wildwood Drive, Marietta, Ohio, passed peacefully early Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Hamar Place Community-United Church Homes with her two sons alongside. She was 75 years old.
Jill, the daughter of the late Herman (Pete) and Lena Congrove, of Circleville, Ohio, was born on January 13, 1949 in Laurelville, Ohio. She lived in Adelphi (OH), Circleville (OH), Defiance (OH), Lancaster (OH), and Marietta (OH). She was a graduate of Circleville High School (1967), attended Ohio Dominican University, later graduated with a Bachelor's from Marietta College, and then a Master's from Kent State University in Library Science. She retired as the Director of the Washington County Public Library after 27 years of service. Upon retirement, she was a substitute teacher within the Fairfield County School system.
She was proud of her son's service in the United States Air Force and would brag about her grandchildren. Amish Country trips with her best friend, Kay Gribble, was a passion which they both cherished. Jill had a love for cross-stitching that led into quilting. Her quilting friends weren't just local, but worldwide. She loved gardening, canning, and doing her best for her four grandchildren.
Jill was a member of the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed her Friday prayer sessions with friends. She liked helping others within the church and assisted the best she could. Throughout her life she was a diverse Christian who appreciated The Bible and her Noah's Ark decorations.
Jill is survived by two children and four grandchildren, all of Marietta: son, James Goeller (Kirsten), and grandchildren, Cameron, Seth, Audrey, and Sydney; and son, Andrew Goeller. She is also survived by her sister, Faye Cockrell, of Circleville (OH), and loving nephew Willard (Eddie) Congrove, of Westerville (OH), and family.
Jill is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Paul Whitted; parents, Herman (Pete) and Lena Congrove; siblings, Raymond Congrove, Earl Congrove, Willard Congrove, and Sue Frye; and infant grandson, Brice James Goeller.
Jill's family would also like to thank all of the care she had received throughout the years. We would like to recognize Dr. Kelli Cawley throughout our mother's battle with cancer, all the doctors and nurses at Marietta Memorial Hospital, the grateful care of the staff at Hamar Place, and Amedisys (Hospice) caregivers.
