Norman Lee Nichols Sr.

Norman Lee Nichols Sr., 76, of Belpre, passed away at Marietta Memorial Hospital Saturday, October 19, 2024. He was born October 19, 1948, in Belpre, Ohio, a son of the late Harry and Mary Glendora Nichols.

Norman was a retired production supervisor from Degussa Carbon Black after 33 years of service. Norman was co-owner and co-founder of Double N Ranch, Nichols Disposal Well and Nichols Reclamation.

He was a US Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. He served with the 1st US Army, HHC 4th Bn, 54th Infr where he served as a Light Weapons Infantryman (Mortarman). For his service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation and Good Conduct Medals. He was Honorably Discharged.

He attended Cutler Chapel United Methodist Church during his youth. Norman was a graduate of Warren High School in Vincent, OH, class of 1967 where he set track records that still stand to this day. He then graduated from the Andrews Barber College in Columbus, OH in 1968.

Norman was a lifelong farmer and served 15 years on the Barlow Fairboard with most of this time overseeing the cattle barn. He remained an active volunteer for the fair for years after, often assisting with weigh-ins. Norman was a Washington County Beef Advisor and a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau. He was awarded the 4-H alumni award in 1999. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan and enjoyed watching westerns.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte Nichols, two children, Monica (Marvin Jr.) Paxton of Parkersburg, WV and Norman (Kelly Cale) Nichols Jr. of Belpre, OH; one sister, Karen (Dean) McCoy of Fleming, OH, one brother Fred (Theresa) Nichols of Belpre, OH; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Keith and Glen Nichols both of Belpre.

There will be a viewing Friday, October 25, 2024 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre OH from 5:00pm – 6:00pm for family and a public viewing from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Services will be Saturday, October 26, 2024 with a viewing prior to the service at 10:00am with services to follow at 11:00 am at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre OH. Burial to follow on his farm in the Nichols Cemetery Veto Road, Belpre, OH (adjacent to Hopkins Cemetery). A meal will follow graveside services at Friendship Ridge Christian Fellowship, Braun Road, Belpre OH.
