Sally Jo Iddings Waters

Sally Jo Iddings Waters, 85, of State Route 26, Marietta, OH, passed from this life into life eternal on November 2, 2024, after a brief illness. Sally, the daughter of the late Howard and Audrey Iddings of Marietta, OH, was born on August 4,1939, in St. Clairsville, OH, and was raised on the Iddings Farm Dairy. She graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1957. Sally would later graduate from Malone College, Canton, OH, in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked as a substitute teacher for more than 20 years in the Marietta City School District and surrounding communities.

On June 29, 1959, Sally married Raymond Earl Waters of Cattaraugus, New York. In 1969 they moved to the family farm in Marietta where they raised their 4 children.

Sally was a member of the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene for 50 years. With a deep love for music and singing, she was a faithful member of the church choir. Sally’s faith was the foundation of her life, and she spent time each day reading God’s word, praying, and worshiping through song. Her devotion to the mission of sharing the Gospel led her and her husband to decades of service in Gideons International. On July 27,1972, Sally became a member of the Gideons International Women’s Auxiliary.

Sally loved antiques, gardening, needle arts, and a good Amish novel. She served the Mid-Ohio Valley through her business of 7 years, Ye Olde Cross Stitch Cupboard, which she owned and managed with her mother, Audrey Iddings, and sister, Ruth Hall. She was a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and on any given game day could be found in her family room screaming advice at the tv, referees, coaching staff, and players.

Sally is preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Ray Waters; parents, Howard and Audrey Iddings; sister, Doris Loeber, sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tom Hall of Marietta, OH, and brother-in-law, Richard Waters of Little Valley, NY.
