James Robert “Bob” Rouse

James Robert "Bob" Rouse, 87, of Newport, OH, passed away November 29, 2024, at his daughter Jamie's home in Rootstown, OH. Bob was lovingly cared for the past years by his children and their spouses, son John "Rosco" Rouse and wife Ann Weinberger, daughter Jamie and husband William Reis, and daughter Christina Rouse and wife Melanie Sunderland. Through Thanksgiving weekend Bob was visited by and spoke frequently with his grandchildren MSgt. Natalia Reis and partner, Eric Crews, Maura Rouse, Lt. Cameron Rouse, and Taylor and husband Kyle Crihfield. Bob met and proudly held his first great grandson, Alekxander Thomas Reis Crews and looked forward to the birth, in March 2025, of his second great grandson, Zane Edward Reis Crihfield. Bob was very close to his grand and great grandchildren who called him "Baboo" and often carried their pictures in the front pocket of his famous blue denim bib overalls. Lifetime buddies Todd Ruble, Jay Holdren and Tony Vanderberg and many friends, cousins, and nieces and nephews visited and spoke with him often. Bob was born, October 30, 1937, at Archer's Fork, Newport, OH, to the late James Edward and Eleanor Mae (Riggs) Rouse. Survivors include his children and spouses, grandchildren and spouses, great grandsons, nieces, Carolina Hill and husband Leonard, Kelly Miller and husband Tom, several grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Lester Grosklos, nephew, Dennis Grosklos and several first cousins. He was a 1955 graduate of Lawrence High School being the President and Valedictorian of his class. He enjoyed and chaired many years of Lawrence High School reunions. Bob was in the millwright union and in the former Frontier Lions Club selling numerous hot dogs and popcorn at Frontier football and basketball games. Bob worked at his Uncle Earl Rouse' Quaker State gas station, at Quaker State Oil Refinery, at Sunoco Oil, and retired as a millwright.

Services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 2 PM at the Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, WV, with daughter-in-law the Rev. Melanie Sunderland officiating. Interment will be in Newport Cemetery with a reception at Bob's home to follow. His favorite ice cream will be served. Friends may call from 12 to 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
