Janet Otto Falk

“Remember to make memories!” were the last words our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie, Janet Otto Falk, 89, spoke before she departed our world on December 31, 2024 at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, FL.

Janet was born In Marietta,OH February 22, 1935 to John Herbert Otto and Jeannette Chamberlain Otto. In her early years, she lived at Walnut Hills Farm in Devola with her parents, brother Lynn and maternal grandmother Helen Devol Chamberlain. She attended Putnam School before the family moved to 5th Street in Marietta. Janet graduated from Marietta High School, attended Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated from Marietta College. After college, Janet and her former husband Tom Schuyler moved to New Jersey where she taught elementary school and they raised their children, Cynthia and Thomas. Later, Janet married Robert Falk and they enjoyed living on Dunwalke Farm in Far Hills, NJ prior to retiring and moving to Labelle, FL.

In Labelle, Janet was an energetic member of the community serving at the Unitarian Universalist Church and teaching Tai Chi until she was 87. She was an avid dog lover, bird watcher and traveler, fiercely independent, devoted to her extended family and known for wearing socks and sensible shoes with every outfit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her son Thomas, her grandson Ryan, her stepson John, her brother Lynn Kelso, a great nephew Kelsey Buzzanco, a dear friend Dr Martha Valiant, and the father of her children, Tom. She was a loving mother to daughter Cynthia of Sheffield, MA who survives along with granddaughter Bobijo, great grandchildren Isaiah, Alexander and Luna , her stepdaughter Noreen of Sedona, AZ ; nieces and nephews Mindy Kelso Steinkruger, Alan, Stuart, and Mark Kelso, Jane Kelso Winter and their families.

She was very fond of her cousins, Gretchen Otto of Marietta and Mimi Otto Holley as well as her many Chamberlain cousins.

Janet features in many of our memories and she will be missed.
