Penny D. Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at her home in Fleming, Ohio. She was born on June 15, 1951, in Fleming, Ohio to Dolpha “Doc” and Lillian Anderson. Penny lived a life full of love, dedication, and unwavering support for her family and community.
Penny was a proud graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1969. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Johnson in September of 1969 and throughout the 56 years of marriage they demonstrated through a great example by always living life hand-in-hand. They were each others best friends, sweethearts, becoming parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. They always worked as a team, through building their family, supporting their community and serving God. She was known for her strong work ethic and commitment to her jobs and family. Her true passion, however, was her family. Penny was a huge family person, always cherishing the time spent with her loved ones and supporting them in all their endeavors. Her advocacy for children and her dedication to her family’s happiness were hallmarks of her life. Her legacy of love, support, and family devotion will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ray Johnson; her loving children, daughter Carrie (Greg) and son Michael; and her cherished grandchildren, Daphanie (Isaac), LeáCole (Levi), Tre, Shauna, and Xavier. She also leaves behind her great-grandchild, Ivan Ray, who brought her immense joy. Penny is also survived by her sisters, Marlene (Eddy), Juanita (Jim), and Telma (Bert); her brother, Bobby (Margie); sister-in-laws, Adeline and Betty; brother-in-laws, Carl (Marylin) and Ralph (Virginia); and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Dolpha “Doc” and Lillian Anderson, her grandparents, her grandchild, Sebastian; her brother, Jack Anderson; her brother-in-law, Raymond Johnson; her mother-in-law and father-in law, Jim and Opal Johnson; her niece, Christine; her nephew, Vic; and her best friend, Dorris Vickers.
A funeral service to honor Penny’s life will be held between the two visitation times at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home in Barlow, Ohio, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 4:00 pm. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and will continue after the service from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
