Donald A. Howell, 89, of Graysville, Ohio passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 at his home.
He was born at Rinard Mills, Ohio on July 12, 1935 a son of the late Clifford and Martha Jones Howell.
Donald retired from River Gas/Dominion. During those years he walked countless miles of gas line. He also managed the Ludlow Station in his last years of service. He was a dairy farmer on one of the best “hill” farms in the county. He was a gardener, he and his wife, Shirley, raised enough vegetables for their family and many others enjoying the fruits of their labor. Donald was a mechanic, he could fix almost any vehicle or engine until these new-fangled vehicles. He preferred working outside. He worked his early years for Ludlow Oil and Gas where he gained knowledge and shared that knowledge with the young men he worked with. He was also a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, Graysville, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Tennant; his sisters, Wanda Holland, Wilma Holland, Sylvia Jean Steinhoff and Connie Kanz, and a brother Vernon (Tuck) Howell.
Donald is survived by his wife, Shirley J. Wallace Howell, whom he married on April 7, 1956; his children, Diane (Brian) Ludwig of Woodsfield, Ohio, Donnie (Lorraine) Howell of Wingett Run, Ohio, Gail (Ken) Beymer of Baltimore, Ohio; grandchildren, Lena (Frankie) McCaslin, Kelly (Adam) Wallace, Amy Figel, Beth Ludwig, Aaron (Emily) Howell, Adam (Ashley) Howell, Amanda (Andrew) Cramer, Brad Tennant, Kayla (Shane) Vannatta, Samantha Beymer; twenty great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 where funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Rodney Bettinger officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Graysville, Ohio.
