Alfred B. Smith passed away on May 9, 2025.

He was born in Persinger, WV, to the late Leonard D. and Edith Smith.

He served in the Army National Guard. He and his brother owned MarFab in Marietta for many years.

He married the love of his life, Karen Stephen, in 1981 and the two of them rescued many dogs over their 43-year marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Howard, sister Phyllis, aunts, uncles and many beloved family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Karen, three children, Lane Smith of California, Julie (John) Sheets of South Carolina and Janis (Don) Maxson of Berea, WV, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, as well as several nieces.

He had a lifelong love of children and animals and enjoyed woodworking. He was creative and was a talented craftsperson.

A small family graveside service will take place at a later date. Interment will be in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
