Barbara (Schaub) Thode was born on June 11, 1942, in Sardis, Ohio, the only child of Harry K. Schaub and Garnet Marcilette “Marce” (Williamson) Schaub of Sardis, and died at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, on April 30, 2025. She was a graduate of River High School, Hannibal, Ohio, and Ohio University, Athens. She taught business courses at John Glenn High School, New Concord, Ohio; Mississinewa High School in Gas City, Indiana; and Warren High School, Vincent, Ohio. Following her retirement from teaching, she worked in the Adult Education Department of the Washington County Career Center, Marietta, Ohio.

One of her proudest accomplishments was founding the River High School Alumni Association in 1999 with all-school reunions beginning in 2000, providing more than 100 scholarships to River High School graduates as well as fellowship among its members. She was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marietta, Ohio, and a board member of the Washington County Retired Teachers’ Association.

She loved scrapbooking, which she did from an early age, recording the lives of family and friends.

On June 15, 1968, she was married to Ernest “Ernie” Thode in New Concord, Ohio. She assisted him in his endeavors as a translator/genealogist and accompanied him on his many genealogy trips, selling German maps and his genealogical publications, gaining friends in Ohio and many other areas. After living 50 years in Marietta, Ohio, they moved to Hilliard, Ohio, in 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Ernest “Ernie” Thode of Hilliard, son John Thode and daughter-in-law Janet (Uhrick) Thode of Westerville, Ohio, and grandson Chris Thode of Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 401 Scammel St., Marietta, OH with Pastor Jamie Ulrich officiating, burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday May 5th, 2025 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH. and again on Tuesday prior to the funeral at the church.
