Chyrese Marie McWhirter

Chyrese McWhirter died 6-2-25 from cardiac arrest after a brave battle with Stage 4 lung and brain cancer. Born 5-4-65 in Huntington, WV to Larry and Cheryl Deihl, she lived mostly in the Ohio River Valley. She loved to care for animals, friends, and family in her home and theirs: grandmother Bernice Baisden, father-in-law Bob McWhirter, and aunt-in-law Pauline Cross. She married Steve McWhirter 4-10-87 at Norwood Methodist Church, where she was a choir member. She worked mostly in patient care as a CPR tech, CNA, orderly, and MA, trained at Washington County Career Center. She enjoyed beach trips with her family, and fishing, camping, canoe, and railfan trips in Minnesota and Ohio with Steve. She was artistic: she drew free-hand and digital art, and helped her grandma make quilts and rugs. She is survived by her husband Steve of Marietta; sister Cuzann Deihl, brother and nephew Herman and Ziggy Segle of Canton; sister-in-law Staci (John) Fogg of Columbus, and dogs Scrappy and Max. Michelle Torpy of Marietta, a blessing as a home health aide and dear friend, helped clean items after the fire at her former home. Cremation and a memorial service have already taken place.

“Chyrese taught me true love; she’s at peace, but her spirit will live with me forever. Love, Steve.” McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family with memorial donations to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
