Mary E. Campbell, 79, of Waterford, Ohio, died on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at her home. She was born on December 20, 1945 in Marietta, Ohio, daughter of William and Marcella Rauch Heiss. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1963 and had attended Jackson Technical School in Jackson, Ohio. Mary had worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Washington County Soil and Conservation District for 22 years before her retirement in 2011. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Beverly and the Wolf Creek Homemakers Club. Mary had been selected to be the parade Marshall for the Washington County Fair in 2023. She is a kind, caring and generous person who has been a long-time contributor and supporter of her community as well as of the Washington County Fair. Mary had never met a stranger and had always gone out of her way to help others. She knew just about everyone through the many things she had accomplished in her life. Over the years, Mary was Women of the Year for the local Zonta Club, was responsible for getting toll free calling from Beverly and Waterford to Marietta starting in 1984 and also started Safety Town for the Beverly-Waterford area. She was also a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and served as a board member for the Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District. She also worked for the Marietta Welfare League and while working for the WCSWD, Mary started Farm City Day for the kids in Washington County. She was also instrumental in fundraising to get the hog barn built at the Waterford Community Fair and though she was not on the fair board, she worked very hard along with her husband to run the hog show and sale for many years. Mary was married on April 16, 1966 to Charles J. Campbell who survives. She is also survived by three children, Joe Campbell and wife Bridget, Chris Campbell and wife Lisa and Jessica Campbell and husband Scott Shrader; six grandchildren, Brady Campbell and wife Haley, Blake Campbell and wife Abby, Cassandra Lewelling and her husband Bennie, Clayton Campbell, Brett Shrader and Luke Shrader; one great grandchild, Summer Lewelling; and her sister in law, Susan Bunting and husband Richard. She was preceded in death by her parents; and eight siblings, Billy Heiss, Rita Mae Leopold, Edith Lauer, Kenneth Heiss, Joann Hickman, Robert Heiss, Jack Heiss and Ronnie Heiss.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Beverly with Father Tim Kozak officiating. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery near Waterford. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
