Marilyn Eloise Stegner, 98, of Marietta, OH, passed away July 18, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born May 19, 1927 in Marietta to the late William F. and Blanche Elliott Stegner. Marilyn graduated from Marietta High School in 1945. She worked as a transcriber at various hospitals and was an administrative assistant at the Ohio Extension Office for many years. Marilyn was a member of Norwood United Methodist Church, past president of Business & Professional Women as well as the Pioneer Ladies Civitan Club and involved with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt Grace Pool, lifelong friend June Rose and maternal grandparents, George E. (Dad) and Ellen Elliott who shared the family home. Marilyn is survived by her cousins, Janet Woeste, Kristin Woeste and Kelly Caudill of the Woeste family, and close family friends, Linda Biles, Rhonda Burlile, Cindy Merrow, Gary Merrow and Greg Merrow of the Merrow family.
Marilyn loved to cook and entertain, and many family and friends enjoyed her delicious meals. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many hobbies and activities, including travel, reading, playing cards, puzzles and crafts. She especially enjoyed crocheting, and she gave countless handmade hats and scarves to charities and friends. Marilyn’s survivors would like to thank the staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital and Waterview Pointe for their kindness and care during Marilyn’s final days, as well as Marilyn’s friend Mary Beth Hopkins for her several years of help with Marilyn’s care.
Funeral services will take place Friday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Hadley Funeral Home, 1021 Pike St. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Internment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later time. Contributions may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Norwood United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
