Lowell Clair Bonnette

Lowell Clair Bonnette, of Marietta, OH, passed away on August 19, 2025. He was born on December 3, 1942, in Parkersburg, WV, and was the son of the late Virgil Bonnette and Lorraine Bryan Bonnette. Lowell’s family lived in Elizabeth, WV until he was in second grade and then moved to Marietta. He graduated from Marietta Senior High School in 1960. He went to Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, IL for one semester and also worked for the railroad while there. He worked for DuPont, Mideast Color Graphics, Columbus Heating and Ventilating, and retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol as an MR2.

Lowell used his God-given talent of working with his hands and spent the majority of his employment years as a contractor, building and remodeling many homes in Marietta and surrounding areas.

Lowell enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, laughing with friends and family, and especially being outside, watching nature and enjoying the fresh air. Going on vacation with his family was always a happy time and he loved watching his grandsons grow. He also enjoyed spending time with his granddogs, Winston and Casey.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlene Mincks Bonnette, his daughter, Ellen (Scott) McVicar of Marietta, grandson Nathan McVicar of Wadsworth, OH, sister Jeanette (and her late husband, John) Starkey of Waterford, brother Roger (Kathy) Bonnette of Marietta, and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ann (and her late husband, Ernie) Husarik, his brother Edwin, and his grandson, Lucas McVicar.

Lowell has graciously donated his body to the Ohio University Body Donor Program.

The family would like to thank Dr. Uma Borate and staff of Hematology and Acute Leukemia at The James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, OH; Dr. Kelli Cawley and the nursing staff of Strecker Cancer Center in Belpre, OH; and the Cawley Hospice staff for their loving kindness to Lowell and his family.

The funeral service will be held at Gilman United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 23 at 11:00. Officiating is Pastor Garret Russell of the Waterford Church of the Nazarene. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Guests may greet the family after the service.
