Cline
Darrell Roger Cline, 86, of New Matamoras, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at home after an extended illness.
He was born April 24th, 1939, in Bloomfield, Ohio to Myrtle Rinard and James Cline.
He was raised in the Ludlow community by his maternal grandparents, Warren and Sylvia Rinard. Growing up he enjoyed working with his granddad on the farm, pulling wells, and hunting.
Darrell loved reminiscing about his high school basketball days at Bloomfield High School, where he graduated in 1957. Upon graduation he went to work at Quaker State as a sign painter and later at Airolite. Darrell also worked for The Wayne National Forest and spent time out in Idaho fighting forest fires. While working for the Wayne National Forest Services he enjoyed helping out at the YCC Youth Camp. He worked periodically as a real estate agent over the years. In 1980, he began his forty-five year career in the oil & gas industry working for Frontier Petroleum, Pioneer Western Energy, and the Derby Corporation before he and his late wife, Bonnie, started Rockwell Resources, Inc, an oil & gas production company. They also were the owners of Frontier Evergreens, a Christmas tree farm located on their home property. Darrell served on The New Matamoras Peoples Savings Bank Board of Directors for over 30 years. He enjoyed deer hunting, squirrel and rabbit hunting, and most of all turkey hunting. He was the first person on record in the state of Ohio for killing a turkey with a bow and arrow since Native American times.
Darrell was a founding member of the Little Muskingum Fire Department and helped organize the Frontier Economic Development Committee. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.
His favorite pastime was attending high school basketball games, especially when his grandsons were playing. He and his daughter, Holly, thoroughly enjoyed spending time going to games together. Darrell was often referred to as the rock of his family having cared for both his wife and mother-in-law before their passings. Darrell had a huge heart and enjoyed helping others, never wanting recognition. He had a great love for animals as well, especially his dogs and cats. His cat, Buddy, will miss him immensely.
He married the love of his life, Bonnie Sue Robbins, on Dec. 23rd, 1962 in Marietta. She preceded him in death on March 19th, 2004.
Darrell is survived by his youngest daughter, Holly Lynne Cline, of Shadyside and her two sons Blaze Amos of New Matamoras and Bryce Amos of Shadyside; former secretary and caregiver, Mandy Bowersock of Bloomfield; niece, Cynthia Jones of Belpre (fiancee’ Donald Schneeberger Jr.); sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Sandi Garbrandt; niece, Marce Garbrandt (fiancee’ Rick McConnell), nephew, Toby Garbrandt (all of Uhrichsville); niece, Marissa Cross (Butch) of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Rema Robbins of Newport; and cousin Shirley Greenwood of Newport.
