Edna Mae Guckert Welch

Edna Mae Guckert Welch, 100, died at 10:50 p.m. on September 23, 2025 at Elison Assisted Living.

On June 14, 1945, she married Thomas V. Welch, who preceded her in death August 13, 2008, after 63 years of marriage.

She was born September 2, 1925, in Marietta, a daughter of the late Jacob Cleveland and Rose Mae Cheatham Guckert. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Mae Welch, and her son, Kevin Arthur Welch, granddaughters, Melissa Jo Lankford (Michael) Colton, Rose Ann Welch, and grandsons Kevin Christopher Welch, and Corey Alexander (Alison) Welch. Also surviving are 5 great grandsons, Mark Anthony DiCarlo, Trevor Alexander Colton, Kevin Samuel Welch, Tristan Titus Welch and Sebastian Alexander Welch, and great granddaughters, Margo Rose Welch, Maeve Elizabeth Welch and Courtney Colton Hutchins and several nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death was her mother, father, grandparents, two brothers, seven sisters and their spouses, one grandson Cody Allen Welch and daughter-in-law Tammy Welch.

She was a 1943 graduate from Marietta High School and attended the Valley View Baptist Church. After graduation, she worked for the government in the Pentagon Building at Arlington, Virginia, returning home December 14, 1944, because of the illness and death of her mother on January 14, 1945.

In January 1945 she began work at the International Derrick and Equipment Company, previously located in Westview, and in June 1968, at the Bureau of the Public Debt in Parkersburg, WV, retiring from there in December 1989. She was the recipient of the “Albert Gallatin Award” given in evidence of the esteem which she held by the Department of the Treasury, which has been the beneficiary of her labors for so many years. Edna was active in the Warren School District serving as Vice President and President of the Warren PTA. She was active in Band Boosters, organizing parents to make costumes, collecting old sheets to be dyed and used for the costumes at the May Day Assembly, making eight of them herself. She also was an end woman in a play put on by the school which was produced by the Music Teacher, Harriet Gibson. Her husband, Thomas, was a lead ballet dancer in the play. She was active in home demonstration groups in Warren and Reno Schools serving as officers and teaching crafts to the members. After moving to Reno in 1960, she became President at the Community Club and began helping in other organizations. She also taught Bible School at the Methodist and Valley View Churches using songs she had learned at the Marietta Salvation Army when she was young. At the Salvation Army she belonged to the Sunbeams, Girl Guard Groups, and Corps Cadets receiving training for her life. She also conducted crafts for the “Band of Love Group” at the Salvation Army and played 2nd trumpet in the largest band that The Salvation Army ever had in Marietta. Her sister, Betty, retired as a Brigadier in the Salvation Army before her death.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm, Friday, September 26th, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial being in the East Lawn Memorial Park beside her beloved Spouse.
