Blain Otis Mendenhall, 87, of Newport, Ohio, passed away at Marietta Memorial Hospital on December 13, 2025, surrounded by his family. Blain was born at home to the late Carl Mendenhall and Audrey McMasters Mendenhall. He attended Newport/Frontier School through the 10th grade. Blain was an entrepreneur throughout his life. He logged for many years using a team of horses before starting Mendenhall's Scrapyard 40 years ago. Often seen in his bibbed overalls working in the yard or driving trucks, Blain was well known throughout Newport. He also took an interest in the rental business and was a landlord for 38 years. Blain loved horses and deeply cherished his family. He was especially proud that his son Timothy and grandson Gregory were called into the ministry and now serve as pastors at 3FC Ministries in Reno, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Blain is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Janice Mendenhall; his sons, Ricky Mendenhall and Timothy Mendenhall (Brenda); his grandchildren, Greg Mendenhall (Harlee) and Cody Mendenhall (Britney); and his great-granddaughter, Paisley Mae Mendenhall. He is also survived by his brother, Doyle Mendenhall (Beverly); his sister, Bethel Caldwell (Junior); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV with Pastor Tim Mendenhall officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery.
