David Alan Poe, 71, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away on February 1, 2026. He was born June 23, 1954, to the late Howard and Edith Poe.

David was a 1972 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and earned a journalism degree from West Virginia University. He devoted 25 years of his career to serving as a newspaper sports editor, where his keen insight, love of writing, and passion for sports were evident in every story he told. A lifelong sports enthusiast, David especially loved Las Vegas and betting on sporting events, following games with enthusiasm and thoughtful analysis.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Doug Poe, and his niece, Erin Marie.

He is survived by his sister, Jenny (Tom) Meyer; nephews Matt and Corey Meyer; niece Alison Poe; many cousins; and two close friends, David Lemasters and Steve Fought.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Thursday February 12, 2026 at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery South.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Cawley Hospice for their compassionate and excellent care.
