Joe A. Matthews

Joe A. Matthews, 87, of Marietta, OH, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Waterview Pointe. He was born January 10, 1939, in Marietta, to the late Arthur and Florence Viola Leasure Matthews. Joe served in the U. S. Marine Corps and 24 years as a Marietta Firefighter and 5 terms as Marietta’s Mayor. He was a proud West-sider and a member of Harmar Lodge #390 F. & A.M., Aladdin Temple Shrine, Marietta Shrine Club Past President, American Legion Post #64, V.F.W. Post #5108 and multiple other organizations are too many to list. Joe is survived by his children Lisa Lavery (Jim), Jody Curry (Henry), Joe Matthews II (Brenda), Thomas Vannoy, Tony Vannoy (Nancy) and Tammy Vannoy Wilson (Don), 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, a sister Kay Warden and lady friend Jackie Taylor. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Sally Ann Farley Matthews, son Timothy Vannoy, daughter-in-law Connie Vannoy and a great granddaughter Charley Nell Spencer. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St. Marietta, with Pastor Rodney Lord officiating, burial to follow at Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM Friday at the funeral home.
