Hendershot
James Joshua “Yoshi” Jeremy Hendershot, 41, Marathon, TX, ghosted us on November 28th, 2025. He was born in Marietta, OH, in the back of a Ford Econoline on February 27, 1984.
Unapologetically blunt and famously unfiltered, Josh was an unforgettable force of nature. After narrowly graduating from Fort Frye in 2002, he moved through the world with a ‘what you see is what you get’ attitude that masked a deeply tender soul. As a gifted chef, ‘Yosh’ understood that food was a vehicle for connection; his true craft was building community. Though rough around the edges and quick with a sarcastic remark, his loyalty was fierce and absolute. Josh leaves a legacy of good food, echoing laughter, and a community that argued with him passionately, laughed with him endlessly, and will deeply love and miss him, always.
Josh spent his last days with his sister by his side, gently brushing his hair and annoying him with forehead kisses. At the risk of talking his ears off, she spent days reading messages and describing photos that poured in from coast to coast, ensuring his final moments were filled with the memories and love of the communities he built.
In addition to his sister, Amanda Hearn, he is survived by his chosen mom, Jeri Pierson; siblings, John & Nellie Hendershot; a smattering of nieces & nephews; adopted brothers, Adam Drayer, Chris Perez, & Erik Emery; an incredible constellation of chosen family across the continent; and newly found biological father, Tim Shimer (Donna); along with their children Lacey, Katrina, Michael, & Nathan.
Joshua’s impact is unmistakable. To honor him: love bravely, take risks, speak truth with love (or not), and choose connection — especially when it scares you.
A celebration of Yoshi’s life will be held at the Civitan Building in Marietta, OH, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Feb 28. Read his full, unedited O’bitchuary, creep on old pics, and leave a review @ EatsByYoshi.com.
