William Howard O’Linn (Bill, Wild Bill)
Born: July 19th, 1946
Died: Feb 6th, 2026
Bill retired from the Army as a Master Sargent, was a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, world traveling, drinking “good” beer, and was a friend to everyone he met. Bill is survived by wife of 53yrs Marilyn (Schilling), daughter Rebecca (Victoria & David), son Thomas (Teresa), grandchildren Autumn, Kara, Evelyn, Walter, special cousin / brother Kenny, and a multitude of family and friends from around the world.
He is preceded in death by both parents, his sister, brother, grandchild T.J., and a host of beloved other family and friends. Bill was deeply spiritual and profoundly generous with his time, energy, money, laughter, knowledge, and friendship. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends and had a unique ability to connect with anyone in spite of language all he needed was his smile, natural charm and preferably (but not necessarily) a good drink. The stories of “Wild Bill” O’Linn are true, including the day he wore socks and sandals with nothing else, to hang a clothesline. The time the owners of a 5-star Chinese hotel chain came to meet him because of the kindness he showed the staff. His habit of using phone books wherever he traveled to call up potential relatives. And of course, the time where he, his brother, and the rest of the gang were….well… that one really isn’t public friendly, is it?
A Catholic mass will be held on Feb.16th 2026 at 11am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 17784 State Route 676, Marietta, OH 45750. A viewing will be held at the church starting at 10am. Luncheon will be at the KofC Hall at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers Bill has asked that donations be made to a charity or church of your choice and that you have a toast in his honor — preferably with a “good” beer or Irish whiskey.
