Carol Lee Close, 70, of Coolville, OH, passed away May 5, 2026, at her residence.

She was born on April 9, 1956, in Marietta, OH, a daughter of the late Delbert Darwin and Jean Ruth Worthington Bennett.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and served as the church office secretary and treasurer. She worked at Coldwater Creek, Warren School District, Helping Hands Thrift in Chester, OH, and Save-a-Lot in Belpre. She was a member of the Just As You Are Church in Belpre.

Carol enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking and she loved children. She enjoyed family reunions and loved her family.

She is survived by her husband Leland Close; sons Jeremiah Close (Valerie) of Woodruff, SC and Daniel Close (Dawn) of Fleming, OH; daughter Julie Kannier of Pinedale, WY; grandchildren Zachary and Kaylin Close, Alex Mitchell-Close; Nathaniel, Jonathan, Matthew and Michael Close, Paige and Mikayla Kannier; sister Linda Johnson (Mark) of Coshocton, OH; and brother Glendon Bennett of Chesterhill, OH.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Gary and Paul Bennett.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alisha Mills and her staff, Amedisys hospice and their staff, her caregivers Lisa VanSicle and Nancy Bowen for their care, and friends and church members for their kindness and support.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Belpre, with Rev. Michael Perry III officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery Belpre. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm.
