Dolly Jean Payne Smith, 92, of Marietta, OH, died May 5, 2026, at home. She was born January 25, 1934 in Marietta to the late George (Pop) and Fern Whetstone Payne. She was a 1953 graduate of Lawrence High School. On December 20, 1953, she married Homer Ellis Smith in Newport, OH. Dolly spent her life being a devoted wife and loving mom, grandma and ma-maw. She enjoyed family and was always happy to make a big meal and have them come to spend time together. Later in life she spent her days playing in a dirt box, going to the woods or barn and riding on the back of a 4-wheeler with her grandsons. Her famous line was “I gotta finish raising these boys”. She was a Charter Member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church and former owner with her husband of American Flags & Poles. Dolly will be missed by her children Drew Smith (Lou) of NC., Kent Smith (Anna) and Lisa Smith-Barth (Brian) both of Marietta, grandchildren Ryan Smith (Amy), Alane Sanders (Adam), Brandon Smith (Larissa), Brady and Alex Barth, great grandchildren, Owen and Leah Sanders and Saylor and Crew Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Homer Ellis Smith, daughter-in-law Lou Smith, sisters Joretta Wheaton, Grace Saad, Eloise Burwell, Waldine Beardmore and Mary Lou Lassiter and brothers Bill, Bob and Everet Payne. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, May 9th at Souls Harbor Baptist Church, 115 Caywood Rd., Marietta with Pastors Douglas Marco and Robert Hughes officiating.
