James F. Meek

James F. Meek, 93, of Fleming, OH, passed away May 4, 2026, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH.

He was born June 14, 1932, in Vincent, OH, a son of the late K.B. Kenneth Brown “Dick” and Jessie Lee Palmer Meek.

James had worked for Chevron Chemicals for 37 and 1/2 years. He served on the Warren School Board of Education for 9 years, as county commissioner for 4 years, on the board for Issue 2 from 1990-2007, the OSHA board for 5 years, Red Cross and the Glenwood Retirement and Marietta Memorial Hospital boards. James enjoyed camping and was a member of the Pioneer 31 Camping Club since 2002.

James enjoyed making wagons out of old wood Coke cases. He made them for his grandchildren and friends. After retirement, he filled his spare time repairing aerator motors and was still mowing and caring for his lawn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Hazel Meek; sons Randy Meek (Patty) and Rick Meek (Anita); grandchildren Amy Eades, Jamie Meek, Jennifer Toelle, Janel Nuzum, Tyler and Travis Meek; great-grandchildren Zachary and Emma Eades, Riley and Andrew Meek, Trea and Tenille Toelle, Liam, Lyla and Luke Nuzum and Oliver Meek; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Christopher Meek; sisters June and Mary Louise; and brothers, Bill, Kenny and Bob.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Belpre, with Pastor Bill Dunfee officiating. Burial will follow at Barlow Cemetery.
