Phyllis C. Miner

Miner

Our wonderful and beloved mother, Phyllis Acker Miner, aka “Cokie”, passed away peacefully at home in Marietta, Ohio on Sunday, April 26. She was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on September 25,1943 to Phillip and Elizabeth Acker. After graduating from Marietta High School in 1961, she went on to attend Ohio University, earning her Associates degree in 1964 with a focus in fashion. The following year, she married her grade school sweetheart, William C. Miner (d: 2004).

Mrs. Miner served as a teacher at the Pioneer Preschool for 25 years, where she touched and enriched the lives of thousands of children during her tenure. Upon her retirement in 2006, the Office of the Mayor even honored her decades of contribution by declaring February 18 as Phyllis Miner Day. She also worked as a docent at The Castle Historic House Museum, where she continued to serve until her passing.

An avid supporter of her Marietta community, Phyllis spent many summers working as a tour guide on The Marietta Trolley. She loved and attended the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival every year and volunteered for such organizations as the local food pantry and the People’s Bank Theatre.

Phyllis loved her friends, her family and her children above all. Survived by her daughter Casey Miner (Mike Floyd) and her son Matt Miner (Nikki Portman), she will be remembered as incredibly kind and smart as a whip with a legendary sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A date for a celebration of life service will be determined. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be sent to Cawley Hospice.
