James Nathan Kirkbride, 88, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville, Ohio. He was born September 15, 1937, in Marietta, Ohio, to Perley and Charlotte Kirkbride.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and by his son Robert Arthur (Denise) Kirkbride of Virginia Beach, VA.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and faithful canine companion, Belinda; his children, Steven (Dawn) Kirkbride, Karen (David) Rhoads and Donna (Paul) Kirkbride-Glock; his nine grandchildren, David Kirkbride, Robert Kirkbride and Stephanie Kirkbride, Jamie (Erik) Shaffer, Jessica (Josh) Michell, Aaron Kirkbride, Joel Kirkbride, Nick Kirkbride, and Mitchell Kirkbride; his four great- grandchildren, Dominick Kirkbride, Morgan Shaffer, Aidan Michell and Addison Michell; his best friend and brother Robert Eugene (Janeen) Kirkbride; his brother-in-law and dear friend Richard (Debra) Cutshaw; his sister-in-law Pamela (Rick) Cutshaw-Kincaid; his nephews, Rob Kirkbride and John Kirkbride, as well and many relatives and friends too numerous to list.

Jim graduated from Marietta High School and had several careers from working at Clarence Lowe’s service station to projectionist at the Colony Theatre (now People’s Bank Theatre) where he met the love of his life, Dorothy, to furniture warehouse manager at Weiser and Cawley, to his “retirement” job as a greeter at Walmart in Dublin, Ohio.

Jim had a quiet strength and gentle kindness that touched all he knew. He was a beacon in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an unassuming man whose journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion and an unwavering faith in God. His love of animals and goodwill toward others was widely known. His many pleasures included the many animals in his life, country music, playing guitar, driving the Skyline Drive and other trips with his wife, Dorothy, and many celebrations with his family. He enjoyed a good joke and had a sly sense of humor. At the same time, his wisdom and reason were foundations for his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by friends and family but his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.

An informal memorial service will be held for friends and family at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio, on June 27 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Salvation Army.
