Alvera Spare
Alvera Spare, 83, of McConnelsville passed away July 8, 2026 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta. She was born November 28, 1942 in Johnstown, PA., a daughter of the late Carl Marcus and Josephine Verba Marcus.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church and was a current member of the McConnelsville Methodist Church. She had worked as a part-time babysitter for local families and enjoyed cooking and sewing.
In 1976 she was 1 of the 100 finalists in the Pillsbury Bake-Off held in Boston. She was a member of the Neelysville Grange #299 and oversaw the Grange’s food stand at the Morgan County Fair.
Alvera is survived by two sons, Keith Spare and Kevin Spare both of McConnelsville, two sisters, Elizabeth Reed of WI., and Mary Foreman of Lincolnton, NC., a brother, Phillip Marcus of Armaugh, PA., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Spare and two brother-in-laws, Gary Spare and Herman Reed.
Calling hours will be Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 1-3 p.m., at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., with Pastor Sanford Short officiating. Alvera will be laid to rest beside her husband in Bethelem Lutheran Cemetery in Summerville, PA.
