Leah Jane Hughes, 92, of Lowell, Ohio, died on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Marietta Heights Post Acute in Marietta. She was born on January 6, 1934 in Waterford, Ohio, daughter of Ernest and Laura Viola Mitchem Needs. Leah graduated from Waterford High School in 1951 and had been a CNA for several years in home nursing care and had also worked at Kramer Shoe Store in Marietta for several years. She had been a member of the Waterford Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star #506 in Beverly and most recently had been attending St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marietta. Leah loved to sing and had sung in a Gospel Choir for many years. She loved quilting, especially making baby quilts and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leah was married on December 25, 1952 to Dale E. Hughes who died on June 23, 1971. She is survived by a son, Randall Hughes (Julia) of Marietta; two daughters, Caroline Hinton of Marietta and Merrilee Burt of Waterford; her life partner of 52 years, Paul Cameron of Lowell; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great- great granddaughters; two sisters, Lillian Holmes of Troy, Ohio and Evelyn Strauss (Tom) of Waterford. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale; her parents; two sons, Donovan Hughes and Scott Hughes and his wife Karen; two brothers, Ralph and Francis Needs; and a sister Ruth Ann White.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September23, 2026 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Father Gene Sheppard officiating, with burial in the Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
