Congratulations to the Ohio River Museum which is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
A visit to the museum, located at 601 Front Street, is a walk through time and an interactive history lesson about Marietta, its rivers and the way river commerce spurred the growth of our city in its early days.
The museum offers something for everyone. For those who love nature, they can learn about the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers, how they formed and continue to evolve. For history buffs, they can learn about the forts that once stood here and the evolution of the steamboat. For those who seek adventure, the museum is located on the Marietta’s bike trail and sits on the banks of the Muskingum River. Hiking, kayaking, boating and biking are mere steps away.
Over the longterm, supporters of the museum hope to see the museum grow and expand its offerings. But even now, there is much to see and do at the Ohio River Museum. In addition to its many exhibits, the museum is the sponsor of many camps and events, such as the annual Carp Watch each spring. All of these activities draw thousands of visitors to the museum each year.
We hope people will take an opportunity to visit the museum either for the first time, or to make a return visit. A special anniversary open house is planned for Sept. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. Come out and support the museum and the Marietta history it represents.
