Community partners donate 500 hams

2 min read

Necessities are in high demand for those who must turn to food pantries just to scrape by this season. But because of the season, it is important to remember everyone should have a chance at celebrating with more than just the necessities.

We are fortunate to have organizations and community partners here who understand that. In fact, this week the Marietta Community Foundation announced that with the help of Warren's IGA, 500 hams will be donated to Washington County food pantries in time to help many families put a festive holiday meal on the table.

Washington County Harvest of Hope will help make sure the deliveries are made in a way that truly makes a difference for families who may be supported by: Belpre Area Ministries Food Pantry, Beverly-Waterford Food Pantry, Cutler (3-C) Food Pantry, Gospel Mission Food Pantry, Lowell Area Mission Basket, Lower Salem (Tri-County) Food Pantry, Greater Marietta Community Food Pantry, New Matamoras Food Pantry, Newport Food Pantry, The Salvation Army, Washington State Community College Food Pantry and Western Washington County Food Pantry.

"This partnership with Warren's IGA was a perfect fit," said Heather Allender, president and CEO of Marietta Community Foundation. "We approached them about purchasing the hams, and the manager Mike Morrison was eager to help. This initiative complements their upcoming efforts to support food pantries."

How wonderful that those who are able ARE eager to help, as challenges only seem to mount for some of our families. May the meals made of such a generous donation - along with holiday provisions of many other caring community groups -- make this holiday season merry and bright -- for us all.
