Washington County Career Center excels in a number of student-support efforts. One garnering special recognition recently is the support of students with experience in foster or kinship care.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education gave WCCC -- Adult Technical Training the Ohio Reach Postsecondary designation to honor that commitment.
Ohio Reach is a statewide network of professionals, advocates, and students dedicated to supporting former foster youth on their educational journey.
"If they don't have a trusted adult to help guide them, some foster-connected youth may be especially attracted to schools with the Ohio Reach Postsecondary Designation knowing that they'll receive support if needed," Gov. Mike DeWine said. "This extra support and guidance could make a meaningful difference and help a student continue along a successful path to live their version of the American dream."
WCCC already makes meaningful differences in the lives of students working toward living their dreams. But special recognition for its efforts in supporting a particularly vulnerable population of students is certainly warranted.
"We are honored to earn this designation through the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Ohio Children's Alliance," said Adult Technical Training Director Evan Schaad.
