There is beauty in the ice
Marietta residents are fond of tradition all year long, but one annual event brings much-needed sparkle to an otherwise dreary time of year. Tomorrow in downtown Marietta, the ninth annual Glenwood Community Ice Festival will be hosted by Main Street Marietta.
What a wonderful way to showcase the community and its history, all the wonderful reasons to visit, and especially the talents of Tyson Whistler of Whistler Ice Works, who this year will produce 19 ice sculptures to be displayed throughout the commercial district.
He’s got big plans.
“This is the ninth year of putting ice sculptures on the streets of historic downtown Marietta,” he said. “This year, there will be new designs and a nice combination of 3D style, logo style and photo op cutout style sculptures.”
Such a spectacle is possible because of community partners — this time The Glenwood Community — who always step up when it’s time to let Marietta shine.
“We are thrilled to once again sponsor the Marietta Ice Festival, an event that brings so much joy and creativity to our community. Tyson Whistler of Whistler Ice Works, who provides the stunning ice displays, is a valued employee of The Glenwood Community,” said Linda Dailey, senior executive director of The Glenwood Community. “Supporting Tyson and our community is something we are truly passionate about, and we look forward to being part of this wonderful tradition each year.”
It may be risky to mix fire and ice, but the spark that Whistler and the Glenwood folks bring to downtown Marietta each year attracts not only locals but thousands of visitors to view the sculptures and enjoy downtown.
Don’t miss it. While we may not be thrilled with the frigid temperatures again on their way next week, at least Whistler will show us there is beauty in the ice, too.
