Get out and vote in Tuesday election

Tuesday is a primary/special election day in Ohio — an easy one to miss amid the political excitement in the months following last fall’s general election. But it is important all the same.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. (Thank you, poll workers).

If you filled out an absentee ballot, today is the deadline for having it postmarked. But if you deliver it to your board of elections, you have until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for that, too.

There’s still time to do your homework — both by reviewing the ballot and reading newspaper stories on your local races and issues. If you need to learn more about State Issue 2, there is a report at https://www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/. (Click the orange button that says “View the State Issue 2 Report).

You can also double check your voter registration and polling place here: https://voterlookup.ohiosos.gov/voterlookup.aspx. Some of you may have voted in a different location for each election over the past few years. It’s always worth being certain before you get in the car.

Don’t forget your valid photo ID.

There are local races, school bond issues, tax levies and a statewide constitutional amendment to consider. These are the kinds of things that will affect you and your families in many ways to a greater degree than some of the national decisions that garner much more of the spotlight.

And, remember, you don’t have to tell anyone how you voted. Your ballot is between you and the voting machine. What you broadcast on social media is up to you.

Don’t ignore this one. Don’t let a tiny percentage of the voting population make decisions for you, your community and your state. If you haven’t already voted, make the time Tuesday to get to your polling place and make your voice count.

Starting at $2.99/week.
