Local parks bring light to our quality of life
Though it’s been cold and snowy (or a bit warmer and muddy) lately, and perhaps many have been less likely to spend time outdoors, it remains true that our region’s outdoor spaces are an important part of what improves quality of life in our communities.
They serve as places to play, stay fit, enjoy a quiet moment in nature — or even take in the sights of wonderful holiday displays or community events.
But they don’t stay beautiful on their own. Cities, counties, volunteer groups and civic organizations make sure these treasures continue to serve their purpose. Even the state pitches in once in a while.
To that end, Ohio Rep. Kevin Ritter, R-Marietta, announced a few projects in his 94th district that will get a little support from Columbus: Star Mill Park in Racine will get nearly $33,000 for a pickleball court fence, accessible sidewalk and basketball court resurfacing; Albany Village Park will receive more than $18,500 for new playground pieces, mulch and a ramp; and Dodge Park in Beverly will receive more than $20,000 to upgrade its playground equipment.
The money comes from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks grant program.
These are small improvements, but a little goes a long way in the hands of those who are used to making do at our community parks.
“Our local parks serve an important purpose for families and communities around the district, and I’m pleased to see funding allocated toward supporting park upgrades so that they can continue to be valuable assets here in our state,” Ritter said.
Yes, they are valuable assets across the Buckeye State, but we happen to think the parks in our region are among the best — and we look forward to seeing them shine even brighter with a little help from these grants.
