A group merger for good

When two organizations have worked so well, for so many years, to improve the lives of Mid-Ohio Valley children, it is cause for celebration to learn they plan to team up. The Ely Chapman Education Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Washington County will begin working as a team — consolidating services by May 31.

Arts, academics, food security and individualized care will be stressed as the two groups combine, with the idea being an expansion of capacity for kids aged 3-18. With a focus on early learning, the combination should create 48 new spots for children aged 3-5 to receive individualized care.

“This merger is coming from a place of strength from both organizations, we’re both financially sound and have strong leadership and strong boards,” said Club CEO Justin Clark. “This is how we leverage our combined strengths and families can expect to receive the same high-quality care.”

That fits perfectly with the late Alice Chapman’s vision that children would receive personal attention and be able to focus on the arts.

“By joining forces with the BGCWC, we are protecting her legacy,” said foundation Executive Director Andrew Parsons, “and giving it the stable, long-term platform it deserves to thrive for generations to come.”

There will be repurposed facilities, perhaps a few new jobs and the excitement that always comes with trying something new.

As Parsons put it, the organization will “only get stronger so we can better serve our community.”

That is good news, indeed; and we look forward to seeing what the combined group can accomplish.

Starting at $2.99/week.
