CVB connects our region to the world

Travel and tourism are a big industry in Ohio, but many in the Mid-Ohio Valley do not realize what a big role Washington County plays in that industry. We got a good reminder this week during the Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau annual meeting.

“We’ve seen a 6.1% increase in our bed tax revenue for Marietta and Washington County, which we see as a great indicator that people are coming to Marietta and enjoying all the attractions that we have here,” said Executive Director Deana Clark.

Clark and her team made a good decision when, after purchasing and starting operation of the Marietta Trolley, they marketed it as the first thing to do when people come to town.

“If they ride the trolley, we’re able to tell them about all the different attractions that are in town,” she said.

In discussing Washington County tourism’s impact locally, Tourism Ohio Director Sarah Wickham said the industry supports 1,900 jobs and generates $16.9 million in state and local taxes.

Upcoming efforts by the bureau to support America 250 and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival will only build on the bureau’s successes, and its efforts to bring the best of our region to travelers and locals alike will no doubt only grow.

“Tourism isn’t just about trips,” Wickham said. “It’s about connection.”

Thank goodness for those at the convention and visitors bureau and their partners who continue to connect Marietta and Washington County to the world.

Starting at $2.99/week.
