On National Poll Worker Recruitment Day earlier this week, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose rightly seized the opportunity. It's hard to overestimate the importance of a robust team of volunteers willing not only to ensure the security of our elections, but to guide those seeking to cast their ballots and generally make sure the day runs smoothly.
"Every election depends on dedicated Ohioans who are willing to serve their communities," LaRose said. "This November, voters across the state will be casting ballots in important races that will shape Ohio's future. Poll workers are the men and women who ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot conveniently and with confidence."
Board of elections have been diligent in recruiting and training poll workers for many years, but there is a generation of long-term, dedicated volunteers who are likely ready to hand off their posts and let someone else spend the day carrying election day on their shoulders.
And LaRose's office has already ensured those who take up the torch will get the compensation and training they need ahead of Nov. 3.
