GoPacks' Community Resource Fair in Marietta helped connect local families with resources ranging from food to physicals Aug. 23.
GoPacks is well known for making sure students in Marietta and the surrounding areas have access to nutritious food as it works to connect families with resources to fight food insecurity. But there is more to health and well-being than food, and the resource fair brought together Memorial Health System, Marietta City Schools, Washington Morgan Community Action, the Washington County Family and Children First Council, House of Hope, the American Red Cross, the Marietta/Belpre Health Department, Marietta College, Buckeye Hills Regional Council, Caresource, Suicide Awareness Alliance of Washington County and more to support families.
The Times, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and the Lafayette Hotel supported the event, too.
“I hope the people who come here found a resource they did not know existed here in this area, something new that they can use and share with their family,” said GoPacks Director Heather Warner.
One attendee said she goes to the resource fair because it offers so much information. Another said she was attending because of the access to fresh produce -- because she has a family member with cancer who is trying to eat more fresh foods. The range of needs in our region is great.
Helping even one family find a hand up is important.
Helping as many as were reached during the Community Resource Fair is incredible.
