Marietta's Fourth Ward is lucky to have Geoff Schenkel running for its City Council seat. An artist and entrepreneur, Geoff could have taken his talents anywhere, but this lifelong Mariettan chose to dig in here, open his business, and raise his family on the West Side, in an old house that had been in his wife's family. He has spent his adult life improving the place he calls home.
I met Geoff when he created the Wakefield Hotel and Harmar School murals, his talents literally making a mark on the city. Shortly afterwards, he opened REsolve Studios in Harmar Village, creating a business in a sometimes-neglected part of Marietta. When the blighted property next door to his home became the site of drug use, Geoff purchased it, razed the run-down building, and created an artist's garden that is now a neighborhood feature, with a bench where passersby can rest and enjoy the space.
Geoff Schenkel is dedicated to Marietta's children. He has worked for years with the Boys and Girls Club, fostering creativity and channeling children's energy in positive directions. More recently, he has served as the Marietta coordinator of the Building Bridges to Careers mentoring program in the public schools, helping young people develop the decision-making skills they will need to become successful adults and contribute to the life of our city.
Geoff Schenkel has used his considerable energy to make Marietta a better place. He is the right candidate for Fourth Ward City Council.
