Renew senior levy

As we look to the fall election I would like to ask Washington County voters to consider joining me in supporting the renewal of the Senior Citizens Levy. For less than $30.00 per year on a $100,000.00 home, voters can signal their support for seniors throughout the county.

As a “renewal” initiative, that means there would be no new taxes levied on citizens. Your “Yes” vote would mean keeping in place the .85 mil levy that has remained unchanged since 2001. If approved, these monies would continue to benefit a variety of organizations dealing with our senior community, from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Community Action, to the O’Neill Center and the various senior centers throughout the County.

While there has not been an increase in this levy for nearly 20 years, these organizations have consistently expanded their services to our aging population even during the Covid shutdown. These sorts of ballot initiatives allow citizens to express their support for projects they deem worthy. They also allow voters to hold those organizations which benefit from levy monies accountable for how those monies are spent. Again, I intend to vote in favor of the Senior Levy. I hope you will join me.
