First of all I would like commend all the candidates who are vying to fill the three vacancies soon to occur on the Marietta City School District Board of Education. These individuals all deserve our thanks for caring enough to volunteer their time and efforts to play a major roll in making our school system the best it can be.
That being said, I am writing this letter first and foremost to support Eric Reed as one of the very best candidates for the school board openings.
From never receiving anything but an "A" in every class in every grade period in every year from the first through the twelfth grade to graduating with academic honors from Marietta College and Ohio University with degrees in applied physics and civil engineering respectively, coupled with continuous participation in sports throughout culminating in Academic All-Conference honors in football at Marietta College, Eric has always been a resolute and tireless worker. Today, a licensed professional engineer with the Ohio Department of Transportation, Eric has gained valuable experience with communication and problem solving skills, rational and critical thinking, project management and government funding, all important for an effective school board member.
Add to that Eric's experience serving as past president of the Muskingum Township Zoning Board and currently serving as a board member for the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority and we have further evidence of Eric's well-rounded and valuable experience and abilities needed for the school board positions.
In closing allow me to offer one final reason, and in my mind definitely not the least reason, to vote for Eric Reed. He is one the most fair-minded, egoless, caring people I know.
He and his wife Natalie have three children in the Marietta City Schools, so of course the best schools for their kids is part of his motivation. But besides that Eric cares about everybody in the school system. Everybody. He will genuinely listen. And he will be fair. Because that's the kind of person he is, I've known Eric for a long time and I know him pretty well. He is my son.
