Since 2015, Mr. Jay Huck, Hucks Farm & Greenhouse in Devola, and his staff, including Peggy Douglas, have supported Marietta in Bloom. We have relied on this local firm toplant seeds and plugs for the hundreds of flowers (zinnias, coleus, Russian Sage, lantana, etc) needed for the eight gardens we maintain throughout Marietta.
Marietta in Bloom has also enjoyed support from John Neff of Bob's Market in Belpre as well as from Mr. Al Lang and Nick Mahl of Greenleaf in Marietta. Mr. Jack Haessly of Haessly Hardwoods has generously donated numerous loads of mulch over these past years.
In the past, our very small and dedicated group of gardeners has enjoyed working with volunteers from Marietta College and Oriana House as well as other organizations.
In late 2021, Jay Huck decided to retire from operating his greenhouse which meant that MIB needed to find another source for growing its plants.
In the past we have relied on the staff and students at the Washington County Career Center. However, with the arrival of COVID and its negative impact on educational institutions, using the Career Center is not a viable option.
We are happy to report that Russ Thomson, Thompson's Greenhouse, has agreed to grow our seeds and plugs in 2022! We look forward to working with Mr. Thomson and his staff as we prepare for another season of planting and maintaining our gardens.
