During a winter where the coronavirus remains a threat, jobs are better but inflation is worse and the Russian leader is rattling his swords; all the former president wants to do is raise money for a presidential campaign that will never happen. Doesn't matter what he says, Trump is laughing all the way to the bank.
The "other guy" travelled from his palace in Florida to Texas to rally the faithful recently and promised that "when I am re-elected, I will pardon the January 6th insurrectionists". Nothing about the country, just his desire to further strengthen his hold by releasing people who have already pleaded guilty to the crimes they were charged with committing on January sixth.
Since he first came down the escalator to announce his "candidacy" for president, Trump has been interested in only one goal, to become a ruler in the mode of Putin of Russia. Trump has been open about his admiration for the Russian leader and Putin's total control of his country. As is true in Russia, those who believe they can become part of a ruling autocracy have rushed to Trump's side to further his grab for power at every turn.
The basic democratic tradition of two parties who each have a platform of ideas by which they will govern is irrelevant to Trump's most ardent supporters. The National Republican Party didn't even bother to write a Platform in the 2020 election. The leaders who supported Trump at the national level were only interested in keeping themselves in the leadership role indefinitely. By the grace of God some local and State Republicans refused to play the game and President Biden became the duly-elected president.
One year into Biden's presidency, Trump and to some extent his acolytes in the State and Congressional races are raising vast sums of money in the name of democracy when, in fact, they are the farthest thing from democracy that could be. The bottom line is GREED.
Since his earliest days in business, Trump has cared only about his own fortunes and has used everyone, even his own family to feather his nest. Can anyone imagine what a second Trump presidency would look like? Gratefully, some in the Republican Party are beginning to see the dire consequences. Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell pushed back against the idea of a pardon for the January 6th insurrectionists. Hopefully, others will do the same at some point.
To those who still want to support Trump, go ahead, send your donations to Trump 2024 but know that your hard-earned dollars are going nowhere but into Donald J. Trump's pocket. His massive legal bills will require most of any campaign money he receives and you dear voter will be doing nothing but proving again that "there is a Fool born every minute."
