The Oscars have become nothing bad a bad joke and unfortunately the talk of the town. I think many people will miss the exposure of Hollywood that I see when I watch the clip of the "Slap Heard Round the World". First and foremost, if you were on live TV and committed assault, you would likely be arrested for assault. The desire of the victim to press charges or not to press charges would be irrelevant. The camera is the only witness needed in this instance. We get to view celebrity privilege in all its glory.
Next, we should evaluate the virtue signaling that most celebrities are guilty of. As I recall, we have heard quite a bit from these stars about how bad toxic masculinity is. These same stars are quick to defend Will Smith when he displays toxic masculinity. This should demonstrate to everyone that most celebrities don't care about any cause. They are often narcissistic individuals that worry not about important issues, but are concerned with how they appear to others. It is mind numbing that anyone would give any remarks made by these people any kind of importance. Just because they may be good at their jobs does not mean that they know anything at all outside of their field.
Finally, let us explore the ramifications of no charges filed. The message sent to the public is loud and clear. Being offended justifies violence to others. I was taught the adage sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. I would like to think they we as a nation have way more important issues going on that need attention than two wealthy and coddled celebrities having a feud.
