Nationwide, the industry is responsible for 5.6% of total U.S. employment and generates an enormous amount of economic benefits across the country. In Ohio, it provides 375,000 direct and 296,000 indirect jobs, supports over $24.7 billion in labor, and contributes $58.7 billion to our gross domestic product.
However, our industry's future is uncertain without the proper policies in place. Federal regulations continue to threaten our viability through ever-expanding, non-scientifically based EPA regulations. Foreign government-subsidized competition continues to tilt the playing field.
It is important for like-minded organizations to work together to ensure our industry's voices are heard and help educate lawmakers about the value of the natural gas and oil enterprise. Industry-friendly policies will aid the state and nation's economy through job creation and taxable revenue, ensuring that the natural gas and oil industry will continue to be a dynamic economic player in global commerce.
