My sister (Mary Antons) and I saw the show yesterday afternoon (Sunday, February 26). Was truly remarkable. (If a bit long.) A testament, in my opinion, to what remarkable achievements our youth are capable of, given the opportunity.
Both the message of the musical, the staging, the lighting, the sets, the small live band accompaniment in the orchestra "pit" plus the performers themselves.
And, such a pleasant way for our families to spend a Sunday afternoon together! When my sister and I arrived about 15 minutes before the 2 p.m. showtime, streams of families were arriving for the performance! Was a very moving experience, I thought, especially, in light of our current troubling times, for many, including our teens!
I could not help but to recall our MHS school days, "The Fifties," and our quite "primitive" (as compared to the current sophisticated MHS auditorium) venues for staging any sort of show, i.e,, the old high school gym and the Washington Elementary School gym/auditorium! (Enough said!)
There is currently a quite sophisticated (in my opinion) vocal music dept at MHS, although there is No string orchestra and the current MHS band is very small and falls short of our much larger MHS band under Grover Buxton in the "olden" fifties and sixties!
A truly remarkable and inspiring Marietta Community collaborative achievement! Bravos to all!
