Supporting Matamoras residents

1 min read

I am hearing of the plight of the New Matamoras residents with regard to the decision by the Memorial Health System of Marietta to abandon their satellite clinic in that village. Although I am not a resident of that area, I can understand their deep concern for this ill-advised closure.

Being in my mid-80s, I sympathized with those senior citizens who will be deprived of a nearby facility for their appointments. I understand that the MHS thinks a one-way drive of 14 miles is of no significance, but I assure them it is.

This will be a stressful reality to be abandoned after such a long time period of service by the MHS to the Matamoras area. The clients of that clinic have little consolation in telling them it's only a round-trip of 28 miles to any health care. Such communities must have basic needs met in order to attract potential newcomers to settle in such locales.

I say more power to Matamoras for taking a stand and demanding consideration.
