While Mel My late husband and I were attending funeral of a dear friend and Professor. A pleasant surprise lead to wonderful memories.
We were gathered at a large church across from a College where the Professor had worked beyond his retirement as Emeritus Professor.
The Professor had lived in the area for decades. He had developed many friendships. Both he and his family contributed in so many ways to the community and world at large. His late wife was a teacher and his children were accomplished in their fields. Not all of their contributions resided within a small College town but reached far into cities in USA as well as abroad.
Many admired the Professor. The Church where funeral was held was filled to capacity. Many speakers related the great accomplishments. The former President of the College approached the podium. He reminisced many endeavors of the professor and himself. He took a deep breath and then said, "I would be remiss if I were not to add to all the wonders that the Prof. had accomplish, is that He and I wore the same size of "Depends" (disposable underwear). The roar and the standing ovation could be heard outside the church. It seemed as if the roof of the church might have lifted.
What a wonderful sand off for a great man. In somber moments, it behooves us to be able to smile.
