Is Trump really the person Republicans want to lead the country and their party?
I was born during the Eisenhower Administration. I grew up revering him and the others who helped destroy Hitler and his Nazis. American soldiers represented the height of patriotism and sacrifice for our country.
Who would have guessed that in 2016 we would elect a commander-in-chief who evaded the Vietnam-era draft and then bragged that his personal Vietnam was avoiding venereal disease here in the USA? A man who belittled war hero John McCain for getting captured. Someone who refers to soldiers as suckers and losers.
While serving as President this same individual did not want to be seen with amputee soldiers because it was a bad look for him. This same commander-in-chief stood by while our nation’s Capitol was under attack. The legislative leaders and his own vice-president were literally running for their lives and despite numerous pleas from family members and fellow Republicans to intervene, he did nothing for over two hours.
This man is now the leading Republican candidate for president. Is Donald Trump really the person Republicans want to lead the country and their party? What would President Eisenhower think?
